God was where he always is -
People have to give up this idea that we are the center of everything - that it is all about us.
Where as, i see us as just one player on a much grander scale of reality - other planet is only a start - other galaxies nothing when you add other dimensions.
Can God interact with me or you - one on one - absoltely! - Just something about the term Omnipotent that excapes most people. Does God mold your every move and word like He know all the hairs of your head? I doubt it. I see life as more of a herd mentality. The Rancher loves them all - some are lost to the wolves - some get sick and die - some have to be put down - some stand out from the crowd and catch the ranchers eye - and are saved / raptured from the slaughter - saved - set aside to breed the next herd.
I am just doing what I can so the rancher notices me!

Lots of people had the same type of answer that you had. One man injured but survived felt it was God's will that he survive. Others said "FREE WILL". Others felt there was noGod. Everyone has to make up their own minds.

All suffering and anxiety is self imposed.
If you can convince yourself that a death served a purpose it is easier to deal with. If it is for God's purpose how much better.
If you can convince yourself that the dead are in a far better place, then your grief changes from the trauma of death to just the trauma of missing someone.
If you do not believe these things in your heart, then you suffering is just compounded by the "WHY?" questions, and anger at those you blame.
Like the gun law was responsible some how.
