Which Bible translation did Jesus use? And why you should read it too!
Overwhelmingly the data all points to a GREEK New Testament An opinion held overwhelmingly throughout Jews and Christians alike
POINT – Ptolemy’s Septuagint of 250ish BC = ONLY THE TORAH It took another 300 years for all of the Tanak to be translated into Greek Who and when= UNKNOWN
POINT – Myth says – Ptolemy wrote Israel and requested / commissioned the work – and Israel sent him 72 Rabbis – 6 from each of the 12 tribes Closer to reality – Ptolemy used local Egyptian Rabbis – some say at least 2 from each tribe
POINT – What is the value of the Septuagint? 1- It is a perfect insight into what / how the Jews saw and taught their own theology – around the time of Jesus Christ – i.e. it offers theological context to the time of Jesus Christ
The theology of the Septuagint influences Christian theology Remember – the Roman Catholic Received Text is/was 1000% Erasmus Septuagint Greek
2- The agl/NT QUOTES the LXX – up to 300 times And Jesus quotes from the LXX
3- The agl/NT was written in Greek – so understand the Greek LLX only helps us understand the agl/NT Greek
