One of the most common things I hear from Christians - don't study so much - just stick to the doctrine of my Christian fathers.
Let's say I grew up Amish - and I join to the church
First I learn that the Jews had 613 laws
Then I learn all the rule of the Amish
No electricity, no cars, no phones, no education, no fashion
and idle hands are the devils playground, so I worked myself to sleep every day
But all this obedience didn't feel right in my heart
So I went to a local brick and mortar church
It had a steeple and they played beautiful music
But as a Baptist - I learned that mortal men do not stand a change and we will burn in hell fire along side of Dante in his Inferno
This didn't feel right in my heart
Next week - I went to the other brick and mortar church in town
But in the Kingdom Hall - I learned that earth is heaven - God made it for man
and Jesus returned to earth in 1879, I mean 1914, I mean 1916, well by 1925 anyway
The week after that I went to the next town to another brick and mortar church
During the service two people began to roll on the floor and another two started to babble in strange tongues
Finally I met a girl that rescued me and took me to her church with her family
They were all praising the lord with their songs
They were the nicest people - very Biblical - no coffee, tea, or cigarettes
So Biblical that they called one another thee and thy - brother and sister
Then I find out that my new girlfriend has 22 siblings - wow
How did your mom have 22 kids? - She didn't! Her mom only had 6 children
but her mom was wife number three of six
Then they all all put on their special underwear for Temple
I escape all this religious craziness and head to the big city
In Chicago there was a huge church complex - I had to go in
it was so relaxed - Jesus was just a man - a prophet
This was nothing like the doctrine of my fathers
So I flew to the other end of America
There in downtown Hollywood - right on the walk of fame
Is the tallest building on that block - The Church of Scientology
I tried to get in - but the police said, some were in jail, and all were under investigation by the Department of Justice, and the FBI
So, I step out on my own - seeking as David did in the wilderness
Walking as John the Baptist did alone in the wilderness
I started this ministry - the option to become a 501C3 tax shelter and beg for your donation was so lucrative, how could I resist. I have a church charter. If I became a church, I could donate all my income to charity - me. Then pay me next to nothing to manage the church / fellowship.
But the more I thought of it - the more I hated the idea
I have been in church board meetings quarreling about money and power
As I began to "put myself out there" - the full weight of false teachings
and false teachers bears on me.
But in print - I will - 1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
I chose to become a father at the age of 52
- the full weight of false teachings and false teachers bears on me. Even more
This is why I am here - to explore it all
Hopefully - testing / proving it in print by a multitude of Seekers - will introduce us all to new and different ways of looking at the same old question
