Absolutely! From the perspective of foundational elements I can see the logic in that and even from the perspective of human potential unrealized I can see how that might embrace the minigod view, BUT my pathetically current state of spiritual handicap renders me incapable of stating with a clear conscience that I'm godlike. DRAT! I guess when I contemplate what GOD consists of I also include the power that HE has to manipulate those said elements. The Master Material Manipulator! All kidding aside, I'm simply all too aware of my own disabilities.

Larry said, I guess the pagan part of it is praying to those spirits individually versus directing your prayers to the Great Spirit specifically.
Man did you ever hit the nail on the head!
Worshiping creation instead of the Creator!!!!!
This is always the substitute religion. In Gnostic reasoning, gods such as RA, Baal, Zeus, etc, etc are actually Archon seeking worship for themselves. Isn't that the claim of the Beast? In Gnostic teaching the Chief Archon creates children, or minion, for himself and declares, 'I have created, therefore I am god the creator.' Then the voice came from out of heaven saying, 'You are mistaken, Samuel, which means god of the blind.'
So, worshiping the Beast, The Devil, or any lessor god is an act of worshiping creation instead of worshiping the Creator. Really isn't much difference than worshiping a statue or idol.
Many alternative religions preach self-enlightenment, many new age movement also teach self-enlightenment. I once worked with a lady that read Elron Hubbard, Dionetics, which has since become the Christian Science group. She also held to the idea that a piece of God was within her and therefore in her own right she was also a god and had the potential to become as great as YWHW Himself.
The Mormon god was once a mortal who grew up to become our god. So as a mortal, he began his life as part of creation - not the ultimate Creator.

I understand what you are saying - but - do not fall into this common Roman trap! There is a televangelist by the name of Joyce Meyer. I have one of her sermons on tape that I use for reference material from time to time. The point of her sermon is "JUST PRAYERS!" Just prayers are the typical type of prayer taught throughout Romanology. Lord, if you just forgive me for this - or - if you would just forgive me for that! This is just all NEGTIVE attitude! In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us how to pray. He specifically says, do not ask for an endless list of stuff, because the Lord knows even better than you what you really need. He also says, Do not babble on like the pagans do! (Man have I had to sit through many of these!) The Lord's prayer is about praising God. Thy will be done. Don't give me what I want, but give me what I need. Forgive my debts, trespasses, sins, as I also forgive. And the prayer end with more praise. We should break the habit of apologizing to God for being an animal. We are walking corruption! He knows full well what we have done and just exactly who we are - better than we do. This is not the point of prayer. Why do we continually seek forgiveness, if we believe that we have already been forgiven? Why has Christendom encoded this need to apologize to God for being the creature He made us to be? Instead, our prayers should sound, at least, as if we are living under GRACE. Thank You, Praise You, Love you. I know I am an animal, but by GRACE I acknowledge that I have been forgiven of that fact and I appericiate that I have the God's gift to rise above myself and the corporeal plane - THANK YOU!

My father is very devout. As children he would read the Bible to us every night before bed. Now he just reads it until he falls asleep. Half of the things you guys say here would have dad shun you for your heresy. Yet, the other half of the time you sound just like him.
Grace not regret!
