ISIS certainly appear to be doing the works of a hateful angry petty god.
In Gnostic cosmology, God established a paradigm between the duality of TOV and RA (Good and Evil) Function and dysfunction. We exist within the contest between the two sides. God Himself, The Father, The Creator NEVER interacts with man directly.
Wait a minute you say – God spoke to many in the ahl
Yes He did, by way of His Spirit (Holy Spirit)
Exodus (ASV) 33:18 And he said, Show me, I pray thee, thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of Jehovah before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face;
for man shall not see me and live. 21 And Jehovah said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock: 22 and it shall come to pass, while
my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand until I have passed by: 23 and I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back; but my face shall not be seen.
Moses only saw the glory of God
Acts 7:55 (ASV) But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the
glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
Stephen only saw the glory of God
No man has ever seen God only the Glory of God – His Spirit – His light
BUT – in the paradigm of the contest there are two sides – Gen 3:15On both sides of this paradigm God has created – others to carry out His commands
It was not ‘el that did all of the creating – it was ‘elohym (plural)
James 1:13 (ASV) Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and
he himself tempteth no man:
James 1:13 (YLT) Let no one say, being tempted--`From God I am tempted,' for God is not tempted of evil, and
Himself doth tempt no one,
God does not tempt or deceive – (Psalm 5:4-5; Habakkuk 1:13) - but He has a staff that does that for him – the serpent – satans – and all of that side of the paradigm!
Yet, the Quran teaches that Allah is the author of evil:4:142 Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but it is He Who deceives them.
3:54 And (the unbelievers) schemed and planned, and Allah schemed also, and the best of schemers is Allah.
7:99 Are they then secure from Allah's scheme (makra Allahi)? None deemeth himself secure from Allah's scheme (makra Allahi) save folk that perish.
8:30 Remember how the unbelievers schemed against thee, to keep thee in bonds, or to slay thee, or get thee out (of thy home). They scheme and plot, but the best of schemers is Allah.
10:21 And when We make people taste of mercy after an affliction touches them, lo! they devise schemes (makrun) against Our communication. Say: Allah is quicker to scheme (makran); surely Our apostles write down what you plan.
13:42 And those before them did indeed scheme (makara), but all scheming (al-makru) is Allah's; He knows what every soul earns, and the unbelievers shall come to know for whom is the (better) issue of the abode.
27:50 So they schemed a scheme: and We schemed a scheme, while they perceived not.
The term for scheme in Arabic is makara which denotes one who is a deceiver, one who is conniving, a schemer. It is always used in a negative sense. Allah is thus seen as the best of deceivers, the premiere schemer and conniving one.
This is not simply a Christian perspective but one thoroughly endorsed by Muslim theologians as well.
For example Dr. Mahmoud M. Ayoub in his book, The Quran and Its Interpreters, Vol. II The House of Imran, brings up the question of
"how the word makr (scheming or plotting), which implies deceitfulness or dishonesty, could be attributed to God." (Ibid. [1992 State University of New York Press, Albany], p. 165)
