Hello!
This originally was composed to reply David's comments on "God's plan" (ponderingconfusion.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=islam&thread=17&page=1#68), but I decided to post it as a separate thread under the name Gospel and Quran.
Holy Spirit and Glorification of Christ
Thank you for your comments and verses David. I bring forth the following facts about Jesus Christ in Quran for you, you judge yourself who has glorified whom. According to Quranic text:
1- Jesus is THE ONLY prophet whom was given the Holy Spirit powers (5:110) !
2- Jesus is THE ONLY human being whom was called "near stationed to Allah" (3:45) !
3- Jesus is THE ONLY human being whom is called "The word of Allah" (3:45) !
4- Jesus is THE ONLY human being whom his creation is likened to creation of Adam directly by Allah (3:59) !
5- He is THE ONLY human being that his presence is the sign of last days (43:61) !
6- Jesus's mother (Mariam) is THE ONLY CHOSEN, THE ONLY PURIFIED WOMAN above all the women of the universe (3:42) !
7- Jesus's mother (Mariam) is called "the just woman" (5:75), "who guarded his virginity" (21:91) !
8- And the name (Jesus) is repeated 22 times, Mariam 34 times in Quran aside from many other indirect references to him and his mother and Jesus's miracles.
So be fair and sincere and put the above facts side by side the claim of Christianity that is calling Muhammad a false prophet!...an Antichrist!! Tell me who has glorified Jesus in practice?..The church or the text of Quran?
That's why when I come to John 16:12-15 my understanding is very different from you. I see God's plan very clear:
By the Star when it plunges, (1) your comrade is not astray, neither errs, (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) taught him by one terrible in power, (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) being on the higher horizon, (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) His heart lies not of what he saw; (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) Indeed, he saw him another time (13) by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary (14) (Quran 53:1-14)
When Gospel reads "for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak," I clearly see that Gospel is giving a prophecy of a non-Israelite prophet who receives words of Holy Spirit. Why non-Israelite?? because, the Israelites received hundreds of prophets in the course of history, yet they killed many and rejected the rest, even they were close to do the same with Jesus Christ, if he was not equipped by Holy Spirit. God provided them with many chances, but eventually there weren't privileged to hold the kingdom of God:
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Matt 23:37-39 (KJV)
The kingdom would be transferred to another nation. Until people of Israelite repent and come back to God:
Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
Matt 21:43 (KJV)
So John 16:12-15 is talking about a prophet that will "glorify" Jesus while he also comes outside of Israel. That's what exactly Quran testifies:
Children of Israel, remember My blessing wherewith I blessed you, and fulfil My covenant and I shall fulfil your covenant; and have awe of Me. And believe in that I have sent down, confirming that which is with you, and be not the first to disbelieve in it. And sell not My signs for a little price; and fear you Me.And do not confound the truth with vanity, and do not conceal the truth wittingly. (2:40-42)
Or when Quran asserts to Muhammad:
Say: 'The Holy Spirit sent it down from thy Lord in truth, and to confirm those who believe, and to be a guidance and good tidings to those who surrender (to Allah).' (16:102)
Are these just coincidence? Or there is a vivid reality in all above?
The name
I think we agree that when Jesus speaks it is not Jesus who talks, it is the tongue of holy spirit in Jesus's mouth that talks:
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. John 16:7 (KJV)
I think you know what Greek word is behind "the comforter"? > the word paraklētos and it means one who advocates or consolidates in the time of trouble. According to my Greek-Hebrew dictionary which is based on Septuagint, in Hebrew the root for consolidation in time of trouble is "nāḥam" which is derived from "Hh-m". Now put these simple facts side by side and look at the following verse of Quran carefully:
And when Jesus son of Mary said, 'Children of Israel, I am indeed the Messenger of God to you, confirming the Torah that is before me, and giving good tidings of a Messenger who shall come after me, whose name is Ahmad.' Then, when he brought them the clear signs, they said, 'This is a manifest sorcery.' (Quran 61:6)
Actually everyone who has heard about Islam once knows that the prophet who brought Quran was named "Muhammad"! But Quran in a surprising way, cites the title "Ahmad" so we think about the connection in-between Gospel and Quran. Now as you might have noticed the title "Ahmad" also comes from the exact same root of "Hh-m" and it has the same meaning in Semitic Arabic as "the comforter" (parakletos) has in John 16:7 in Greek!
Conclusion: John 16:7 and Quran 61:6 are referring to one connotation, one title, in two languages which is "Comforter" and "Ahmad". Is this just a coincidence? Or if we leave it to the church, they would say "is it not a conspiracy theory?!". Then how about this:
People of the Book, now there has come to you Our Messenger, making things clear to you, upon an interval between the Messengers lest you should say, 'There has not come to us any bearer of good tidings, neither any warner. Indeed, there has come to you a bearer of good tidings and a warner; God is powerful over everything. (5:19)
...see? Remember the word "Emmanuel" and its fulfillment in Gospel? Now you have "Parakletos" and in its fulfillment in Quran as "Ahmad" with the addition of referencing Holy Spirit that was drawn before.
Therefore, with all the evidences I presented on how Jesus is being "Glorified" and how "the prophecised name" appears both in Gospel and Quran in two different languages, I leave it to you to decide if Gospel and Quran has or has not confirmed one another? and if God's plan is clear or ambiguous by design.
Thank you.
