Japan gets hit again. A volcano erupts there today. They just can't seem to settle down to a quiet life.

Are Volcanic Eruptions Tied to Lunar Cycle? For National Geographic News, Brian Handwerk, February 15, 2002 news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2002/02/0215_020215_volcanohunter.htmlThe horrors unleashed by the recent eruption of Congo's Mount Nyiragongo have demonstrated once again our uneasy relationship with the fires that rage below Earth's surface. In January, tons of molten rock from Nyiragongo streamed into the city of Goma, demolishing many of its neighborhoods and killing dozens of people. It was a harsh reminder that, although volcanoes have been ravaging populated areas throughout history, we still lack the ability to accurately predict deadly eruptions and save lives. If predicting eruptions is a confusing puzzle, volcano hunters Steve and Donna O'Meara believe that they may have identified a key piece. The husband-and-wife team are investigating a connection that some volcano watchers have noted since early times, but none has adequately studied—the role of the moon in affecting volcanic activity. The O'Mearas' interest in this lunar theory began by chance back in 1996, while the duo was studying an erupting volcano in the field. Steve is an astronomer by training, and it was his experience in this seemingly unrelated field that led him to a fateful discovery. While compiling detailed journals of his scientific observations, he began to notice a correlation between increasing volcanic activity and lunar cycles. Pouring through stacks of data he had collected over twenty years in the field, Steve examined past eruptions and saw some of the same patterns. Further research suggested that a lunar pattern was also apparent in some famous historic eruptions, such as Krakatoa in 1883. Other observers throughout history had noted the possibility of such a connection, but always as a footnote, and always when looking back at eruptions that had already occurred. No one had given the matter comprehensive study, and no one had attempted to employ these lunar patterns as one of the tools to predict future volcanic eruptions.

HEWS - Humanitarian Early Warning Service www.hewsweb.org/hp/This website tracks data on: Floods, Stroms, Locust, Volcanoes, Earthquakes, and Weather for the globe. It is interesting to see things happening on one day, only to wake and see things happening on the opposite side of the globe to counterbalance.

It is interesting to see things happening on one day, only to wake and see things happening on the opposite side of the globe to counterbalance. That website is fascinating; thanks Dillon. There are indeed interesting patterns to observe. At the moment there is a straight line of seismic activity going from Greece to Japan, almost 10,000 km. There is also another straight line of seismic activity from the Virgin Islands to Alaska - about 8,000 km. Scripture says that the earth is going to go through extreme seismic activity during the end-time period. These tools that are now available allow us to view these conditions in real time - amazing! God Bless Steve

These new tools are amazing.
However - The problem with jumping onto current trends as new trends is that we have no data to verify that they are in fact new trends.
Global warming for example. This is not the first time in history that CO2 levels were this high.
Earthquakes are on the increase over the last 50 years - but it would be interesting to measure today's trends against those of 500 years ago, when Europe was in a mini-ice-age and Greenland was actually green, or a 1000 years ago.
Ponder the seismic activity within the earth the last time the Sumatra, or Yellowstone caldera erupted.
The earth is how old? To look at a 50 year trend and declare it abnormal is not science, it is propaganda.

Ponder the seismic activity within the earth the last time the Sumatra, or Yellowstone caldera erupted. The earth is how old? To look at a 50 year trend and declare it abnormal is not science, it is propaganda. As usual, Dave, you make very good comments and have thoughtful insights. I suspect that Yellowstone, Siberian Traps, Sumatra, MOR, Rockies, Alps, Andes, Himalayas, Great Dividing Range, etc, all occurred during the same geological history at the same time, i.e., the flood. "The mountains rose; the valleys sank down To the place which You established for them." (Psalm 104:7) At the flood, "the mountains rose" from beneath sea level, as the tops of the Alps and Himalayas demonstrate through their limestone peaks. The intense seismic activity during day 2 & 3 of genesis had brought about much of the Large Igneous Provinces (LIP's) that we now see throughout the world, and the time of the flood brought about much of the mountainous regions that we now find. In each case there were extreme seismic activities. There is a final period of seismic activity that the bible speaks of, in which great earthquakes will rip the earth asunder, and which Peter speaks of: "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up... Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells."This prophesy is about a final period of seismic activity which will be seen through the increase of earthquakes in dire places. The elements of the earth will melt with intense heat. This is, I understand, volcanic activity inside the earth which will melt the lithosphere and bring with it an entirely new earth. Increased earthquake activity will naturally proceed this event. At the moment there is nothing to say that something of this magnitude is about to happen, but when it does occur, it will come like a thief in the night. The modern tools we have to examine the increase of earthquake activity give us the means to examine the data and perceive if this time is genuinely upon us. I believe these tools have been provided by God so that, when these signs start to rapidly increase, they will be a sign for the entire world that the day of God Almighty is upon us. It is another interesting phenomena that so much knowledge has increased in these times. God Bless Steve
